Superstition Mountains / Weaver's Needle Tee
Superstition Mountains / Weaver's Needle Tee
At the east end of the Valley of the Sun lie the Superstition Mountains. Easily accessible to the Phoenix, Arizona metroplex, the “Supes” offer wilderness hiking on both developed and unmaintained routes, boating on the Salt River lakes – Saguaro, Canyon, Apache and Roosevelt, and the iconic drive down the Apache Trail – Arizona Route 88 with the fearsome Fish Creek Hill.
The Superstition Mountains, the weathered surface of overlapping volcanic calderas, are the location of the fabled “Dutchman’s Lost Gold Mine” of Jacob Waltz, Weaver’s Needle – recognizable as the heart of the wilderness area, the story of the Peralta family and the road and ranch of Elisha Reavis. Enjoy the numbered trails in the “Supes” and see “Geronimo Head”, “Castle Dome”, Tortilla Flat and in Lost Dutchman State Park – the “Flatiron”.
